N.A. Basic Text

The Narcotics Anonymous (N.A.) organization was started in the 1950s in southern California. Having the experience and wisdom from the A.A. organization to draw on at that time, the N.A. organization adopted many of the same principles and traditions as were used in the A.A. organization. This includes the basic 12 step approach to recovery.

In 1983, the N.A. organization published the Narcotics Anonymous Basic Text. It is analogous to the original A.A. Big Book, except that this Basic Text was written from the perspective of those recovering from an addiction to drugs and narcotics. It builds upon the principles that had already been established through A.A. and draws upon the wide range of experience that recovering addicts had gone through using the program.
